Leaves of Absence


During a leave of absence, you:

  • Do not contribute to the plan,
  • Do not acquire pensionable service, and
  • May not withdraw contributions or collect termination benefits such as a refund or a pension.

There are special provisions for:

If you are enrolled in a deferred salary leave plan, you will continue to contribute to TRAF based on 100% of your gross annual salary rate and continue to earn full service credits during that time.

Contributions are not made to the Fund, nor is pensionable service acquired for the year in which the leave is taken.

However, if you attend an educational institution during your leave, you may purchase the service as an Educational Leave.
