Investment Committee

TRAF's Investment Committee oversees and directs TRAF's investment activities. The Chair of the Board and a teacher representative from the Board sit on this committee with the Deputy Minister of Finance for the Province of Manitoba. A second teacher representative from the Board acts as an observer on this committee.

All recommendations of the Investment Committee must be approved by the Board prior to implementation. Additional details regarding the function of the Investment Committee are set out in its Terms of Reference.

The current members of the Investment Committee are set out below.

Myrna has more than 26 years of experience in the financial services industry. She is currently the Executive Vice President & Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer for Access Credit Union Limited. As a member of the executive team at Access, she is heavily involved in the development and execution of corporate strategy and board governance. Myrna also oversees the information technology and security, marketing, credit, and business integration functions for Access.

Myrna has completed the IFIC Mutual Funds License, Canadian Securities Course and Certified Financial Planning designation. Her education also includes completing the Certificate in Management program at the University of Manitoba, and Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Management and Masters in Business Administration through Athabasca University. She is currently enrolled in the Institute of Corporate Directors - Rotman Director Education Program.   

Myrna has been actively involved in a variety of volunteer organization boards, and currently serves on the South Central Cancer Resource Board and is part of the Host Committee for Hockey Canada's National Women’s Under 18 Championship event.

Teacher Representative

Glen is currently the Department Head, Member Benefits with The Manitoba Teachers' Society where he oversees the various benefit plans that The Manitoba Teachers' Society holds. Formerly, he was a teacher in the River East Transcona School Division, and served as President of the former River East Teachers' Association.

Glen received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Winnipeg and his certificate of education from the University of Manitoba.

Sam is the founder, CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Altema Asset Management Inc., an emerging alternative asset manager. He has been a senior executive at several mutual fund companies and was the Chief Investment Officer at Wellington West Asset Management. 

In addition to his senior executive leadership roles, he has managed money for some of Canada’s largest investment managers and funds, including IG Wealth Management, National Bank of Canada, and CI Investments. He has directly managed various Canadian, U.S., and global equity and fixed income strategies using the unique quantamental investment process.

In addition to serving on TRAF’s Investment Committee, Sam is Vice Chair of the Investment Committee for Winnipeg Civic Employee Benefits Plan (WCEBP).

Sam has a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance with a minor in pure mathematics from the University of Manitoba. He is a CFA charterholder and holds designations from the Canadian Securities Institute.

Sam is actively involved in the community. He currently serves on the Major Donor Cabinet for United Way Winnipeg, and is a board member of St. Alphonsus School and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba. Previously, he was on the Board of Trustees for United Way Winnipeg and chaired their GenNext initiative. He was also on the Finance Committee for the Holy Rosary Church of Winnipeg and fundraised for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s Imagine a Place Special Gifts campaign.

In 2010, Sam won an award for significant career achievements in the business and professional category of the Future Leaders of Manitoba Council.

Yik is an Assistant Professor at the Asper School of Business where he teaches financial management practices and corporate finance. He was also a lecturer at the Schulich School of Business at York University, where he earned his PhD in Finance. Yik also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Teacher Observer (non-voting)

Tammy is the current President of the Red River Valley Teachers' Association and a teacher/counsellor at Sanford Collegiate in the Red River Valley School Division. She has been an active member of her local association since 1998 serving in various capacities including: President, Past President and Collective Bargaining Chairperson.

Tammy has served on several provincial committees related to education, finance, collective bargaining and teacher certification.

Tammy received her Bachelor of Education (1996) from the University of Winnipeg and her School Administrator's Certificate in 2004.
